Comments: The red fruit is a choice of migratory birds and is gone before most other kinds. Best growth is in well-drained soil. Will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions from acid to alkaline and from very moist to relatively dry. Makes a nice patio tree, but young growth does have some thorns. Exfoliating bark can be an added interest in older trees. Excellent tree for naturalistic settings.
