Comments:
The stems, petioles, and leaf veins of this plant are covered with a dense armor of yellowish needle-like spines, which can cause severe skin irritation. Older plants have long slim, white inforescenses in spring and red berries in fall. It gives very coarse textureal element to the landscape. Various parts have been used by native Americans as a herb and for medical applications.
