This large, deciduous shrub to small tree produces very colorful pink flowers in spring. The foliage is scalelike. Plants can be quite aggressive and spread in dry landscapes Tolerant of droughts and salt spray close to the beach, but will grow in a wide range of soil conditions from dry to moist and fertile to very poor soils.
