In very hot positions in the landscape, it will benefit from shade in the afternoon. With its golden spine and dark green color, it is one of the most attractive cactus of this genus. It is grown in containers and does well indoors where it get adequate light. Its shape resemble that of hot air balloons and thus a common name for it.
