Comments: Little known about this species at present. Related to Zanthoxylum americanum or Prickly Ash. A dioecious tree that may be considered a large shrub. Flowers are formed on previous seasons and older wood. Bark has cone-shaped, corky, spine tipped growths on the trunk and large branches. When leaves are crushed, the emit an aroma similar to that of limes. Use in woodland gardens where there is dapple shade.
