Comments: Although not a well known tree in this country it is a highly prized fruiting tree in China. The oval to rounded tree produces bright green shiny foliage. Trees set very heavy crops of fruit and branches often become pendulous. The fruit dries and looks a lot like dates. This tree can tolerate a broad range of growing conditions from fertile, well drained soil to rather heavy clay soils. Fruit is red and showy until it turns black in late fall. Autumn foliage color can be quite attractive.
