Comments: Grown for its colorful foliage. Many of the Japanese maples are relatively short lived in the Lower South. It seems that they have a root rot problem once they obtain a mature size and become around fifteen to twenty years old. Apparently the problem is associated with poorly drained soils. However, they well worth planting because of their outstanding features throughout the year.
