Comments:
This is a highly prized tree in Japan. Used primarily as a specimen or accent tree. The hard wood is used for making boats. The yellow pollen cones are borne in tight clusters. The tree which can be multi-trunked produces heavy branching with dense luxuriant foliage (cladodes). The attractive bark is orange-brown. Fossils of this genus go back 230 million years. It is a popular garden tree in Japan. Does not grow in zone 8 and southward. An expensive tree to purchase and difficult to locate one to buy.
