Comments:	A stiff, uprignt plant that will tolerate a wide range of growing conditions from dry pine woodlands to bottomlands. Birds eat the fruit. Best adapted to conditions of the Upper South, although this shrub will grow in the Coastal South. Several improved cultivars available in the trade. In native habitat, normally found growing in colonies along streams. Berries persist for a long time after leaves drop. Plants can sometime have leaf diseases.
