Sweet basil is a fast growing, tender annual that is easy to grow in moist, well drained soil and where it is exposed to full sunlight. There are several cultivars, most of which are green. The one here is maroon and very ornamental. This herb, either fresh or dried, is used in food preparation as well as an ornamental in the landscape.
